Résumé
(from the chapter) This chapter reviews our recent and ongoing work toward understanding the perceptual-cognitive interface. We begin by reviewing the role of relational processing in perception and higher cognition, with an emphasis on the implications of relational processing for mental representation and cognitive architecture more broadly. Next, we consider how the visual system might deliver such representations to cognition. Finally, we discuss how relational representations may be used as a basis for scene recognition and comprehension--a process that lies squarely at the interface of perception and cognition.
