Résumé
Reports on a series of 3 experiments designed to study the development of retention of verbs among French children. The present authors support earlier studies of E. V. Clark (1973, 1974, 1978), who presented 5 hypotheses concerning the experimental verification of verbs in several languages (i.e., English, German, French, Russian, and Danish). The current series of experiments involved the comparison of verbs of transference of possession among 60 children, ages 6-9 yrs (Exp I); the production and recognition of verbs of transference of possession among 96 children, ages 4-8 yrs (Exp II); and the definition of 3 verbs of judgment among 108 children, ages 4-9 yrs, and research on their critical utilization of these verbs--"accuser," to accuse; "punir," to punish; and "gronder," to scold (Exp III).
